About four days ago I found that when I started my iMac, the external hard disk that I have connected with different partitions to save Windows files with BootCamp, OS X files and a last partition to save backup copies with Time Machine does not mounted correctly, that is, the different partitions did not appear... the morning started badly.
From that moment I started to carry out the typical maintenance tasks as is run check / repair disk from Disk Utilities, as well as trying to mount the drives that appeared in "gray" without much success to say, what's more, even on the Time Machine partition the system indicated that due to an error it was not possible to repair that disk.
This is where DiskWarrior 5 comes into the picture, an application that a good reputation precedes him and that I set out to prove how last resort before data is lost. Clarify that I only used the part of rebuilding directories and files since it also gives you the possibility of creating a USB memory with a bootable OS X system so that you can run the program when the damaged disk is the startup disk.
Returning to the topic, once executed it will ask us for the administrator credentials and then we will see a screen with three "tabs", Directory, Files and Hardware. Just below we will see a rebuild button and a bar that will indicate the optimization in the disk's file system.
To recover the particular partition, all I did was select it from the list and click on the Rebuild button. After about 20 minutes (it took a long time), suddenly the unit mounted and I was able to access the backups, in this way I saved the information and verified that the integrity of the data was still intact.
The downside is the price of the application, as it is geared more towards business environments where data loss can be crucial as A single DiskWarrior license is priced at $ 119,95, something that seems excessively expensive although as I said everything depends on the data you have stored.
