When Apple introduced iOS 4.2 it gave AirPlay a lot of hype, but the reality is that at a domestic level everything has stayed in a few docks and on the Apple TV ... unless you expand your possibilities with AirServer and your Mac.
Perfectly simple
Once we start the installer and let it be located on our taskbar, everything happens transparently on our Mac. Only we have to go to our iPhone or iPad to play multimedia content and search on Mac among the devices that support AirPlay, choose it as the destination and… so what?
Well, this is the best of all: it opens QuickTime X full screen -we can resize to taste- and it plays the video that is being sent from our iDevice, without any apparent cut and at least in the tests I have carried out. And with audio and photos it is also perfect.
Why is this not standard on our Mac? Well, because among other things it would subtract sales from Apple TV, but the truth is that it is very interesting, believe me.
Its price is really low and I think totally justified: 5 dollars.

Is it for iPad 1 or just iPad 2 with AirPlay Mirroring?
It works for iPad 1 in principle, I have only tested it with the iPhone 4.
Is there a tutorial that explains how to play files from Mac to iPad / iPhone?
I use AirServer since the 1st version and it has improved a lot, if you have a TV connected to the Mac you can select that screen for the AirPlay, I think that Apple does not incorporate this as standard because it leaves it to the developers and the Mac App Store, Apple you know that AirPlay should be like this, it is normal.
To send audio / video / photos from Mac to iPhone you have to use StreamToMe, the best App for streaming on iOS, I have tried several and this is «The Best», in my blog you have the info:
