One of the new features that Apple has included in the new OS X Yosemite is the ability to attach large files to emails. This feature has not been very popular and you may not even know of its existence at this point. It is a new tool that they have called Mail Drop and it makes use of the Apple cloud to act as a bridge between the sender of the large file and the receiver.
Mail Drop makes use of iCloud.com to be able to host the large file that we want to send and that later the receiver can download it from said cloud. The process for the receiver is totally hiddenBy this we mean that the recipient receives the mail in a normal way and when he clicks on the link, the file is downloaded from the Apple cloud to his computer.
With Mail Drop the Cupertino want to give a twist in the Mail application in the new OS X Yosemite. The fact is that not only are we going to be able to use the Mail Drop function in our Apple email account, this is an @ icloud.com account, but we can also make use of it in accounts such as Google or Hotmail if we activate it properly as we will explain in this article.
In order to send large files through Mail Drop in each of the accounts that we have registered in the Mail application, we will have to follow the following steps:
- We open the Mail application and go to the upper menu bar to enter Mail> Preferences.
- Within the window that appears we go to the tab Accounts and inside it to the tab Advanced.
- Now we must make sure that the option to send large files through Mail Drop is activated.
From that moment, every time you go to send a large file through an email, it will be uploaded to the iCloud cloud and the recipient will be able to download it from that place when they click on the link that reaches them.
I wanted to make a comment about how I can activate mail on my mac, I have a gmail account, but I don't want all the messages to appear but only the last ones, is there any possibility in mac to do this?
