Repair and use iMovie in OS X Yosemite 10.10

imovie-update

Our colleague, Francisco Ruiz shows us a little trick / tutorial to solve the iMovie update 'problem' for OS X Yosemite 10.10. Well, many of you will be thinking that there is no problem with the iMovie application in the new OS X Yosemite and in fact you are absolutely right, but it seems that those users who have the application purchased Since before Apple offered it in the free pack, it now asks them to update to checkout again to use it despite the fact that Apple CEO Tim Cook said that there would be no charge for updates.

We assume that he was referring to the free versions released because users who have purchased iMovie from before are asked to checkout. That said, there is a very simple way to bypass this application restriction so you do not have to pay again and it is totally legal. further we don't need to download anything third-party to work and is totally free, let's go with the video:

At the moment Apple does not seem to revoke this payment for the iMovie application purchased before launching for free and we hope that it realizes the error soon and the update is totally free for all users. At the moment and while this does not happen we can use the interesting trick that discovers us Francis Ruiz, We can continue using our iMovie in OS X Yosemite without having to pay anything again.

I formatted my MacBook Pro and when installing Yosemite I lost the iMovie application. Now, if I want to buy it again, it asks me to pay for it.
Is there a solution to get back to at least the previous version of my application?

    Thank you very much

Hello Sara, did you buy it?

I find it strange that if you already had it associated and purchased from your Apple ID now it asks you to pay for it. Did you follow the tutorial in the post and it doesn't work for you?

      regards

hi: i have imovie 10 but i don't know how to use it and i want to use imovie 9 again .... i know it's supposed to be installed on my mac but i can't find it. Can you help me?

         Jordi Giménez said

Hello Maria Martha, in principle I doubt that you can use iMovie 9 again once it is updated you cannot go back in a 'legal' way. You could find the version you want on the net and install it, but that's up to you.

      Regards!

Hi, I've been working with imovie for six years and have created dozens of videos of all kinds. In other words, I don't consider myself a rookie.
Whenever a new version of OS or imovie has been released, I have updated them to take full advantage of the features.
From Snow Leopard to Mavericks and the latest update to the imovie with the yellow star everything worked like a charm.
By upgrading to Yosemite and imovie with the purple star the problems started.
When loading videos longer than half an hour the imovie hangs as if it could not handle them.
I have taken the leap forward and upgraded the OS to El Capitan and also the latest version of the imovie.
Well, now I do not reproduce the photographs. If I import 10 photos taken with the same camera on the same day, 2 are seen and the other 8 are not.
I have opened two incidents in Apple Support and they go around it but they don't solve it for me.
Before, imovie allowed importing photos directly from iphoto. Now this option has disappeared and they cannot be imported from Photos, which is the app. which replaces iphoto in El Capitan. It must be done as a.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I would like to be able to access an exclusive imovie forum in Spanish with experienced users.
If the solution is to go back in the updates I wouldn't care if I knew how to do it.
El Capitan does not support the version of imovie with the yellow star.
    Thank you and greetings. Antonio.

    Dear Jordi,
I have a question for you because also after having updated my Mac to OS X Capital iMovie cannot update it and it asks me to purchase it when it seems unfair to buy a program that is already installed. I have done what you did in this video but unfortunately when you finish what it does is open the IMovie version 8 that if it runs with this latest software than updated. So I wanted to know is there any way in my case where I can update without charging ???

Hello Jordi, I have had iMovie and Garage Band forever, my MacBook Pro is from early 2011, they reinstalled Yosemite OS 10.10.5 because it got slow when updating to El Capitan and it came without those two programs, when I try to download iMovie and Garage band tells me that I need a minimum OS 10.11, which I don't want due to the speed problem, what do you recommend to install them?
