Tip: Reduce the size of PDF files with Preview

Quartz

Although a priori it seems an application without many resources, Preview contains multitude of little virtues that allow us to take advantage of it every day. We can, for example, resize images, insert signatures previously made on paper or change a file to another type in a matter of seconds.

Very easy

This trick is very easy to use, since it is done in a couple of steps from a PDF file or any other type of compatible file that we want to save in PDF. It is not equally effective on all types of files, but it always reduces the size thanks to the action of the Quartz filter.

El proceedings it is simple:

  1. Open the file to be reduced in PDF with Preview
  2. Click File> Export (not to be confused with Export as PDF)
  3. Choose the save path and use the Quartz Filter «Reduce File Size»

With these three steps we will have a file Smaller PDF. There are other filters available that may be of interest to you given the situation, such as turning the file to black and white before exporting it. It's not that this trick is going to save our lives, but maybe sometime a PDF is oversized for some requirement and with this trick we can overcome the obstacle.
