Apple has added 20 new locations compatible with the 3D function (or Flyover mode) in both the iOS versions and the Maps application in OS X. The new points include cities and monuments in the USA., Japan, Italy, Spain and France.
This function was introduced for the first time when Apple Maps was launched back in 2012, specifically Flyover allows users to do a kind of interactive 3D virtual tours through various points of interest around the world.
Without further ado, here are the 20 new locations:
- Aarhus, Denmark
- Bobbio, Italy
- Budapest, Hungary
- Cadiz, Spain
- Chenonceaux, France
- Dijon, France
- Ensenada, Mexico
- Gothenburg, Sweden
- Graz, Austria
- Loreto, Mexico
- Malmö, Sweden
- Mayaguez, Puerto Rico
- Millau, France
- Nice, France
- Omaha Beach
- Rapid City, South Dakota
- Rotterdam, The Netherlands
- Sapporo, japan
- Strasbourg, France
- Turin, Italy
Looking back, you have to remember that Apple has already added support for Flyover in more than 50 new locations in 2015 making a total of more than 150 locations today. Recently, at the end of June, the company added new locations in Europe and Puerto Rico.
Although it is really quite practical to have an overhead view with relief, buildings, monuments and other constructions in 3D, I still think that its most direct competitor (Google Maps) still beats Apple with the Street View function, much more useful to locate in "Real shape" the different places and get a more concrete idea of the place you are going to visit, even so the improvement that Maps has undergone for more than 3 years has been quite considerable. In addition to this, surely we will not take long see a function similar to the one already commented on Google in the Apple Maps application.
