With the official launch of MacOS Sierra new features and functions arrived on our Macs on September 20. Most of us, because of its importance, have focused on the introduction of Siri for Mac, long awaited by users, the universal clipboard, the function auto unlocking from the Apple Watch, or that possibility that we now have to have the files from the Desktop and the Documents race on any of our devices through iCloud.
However, the Photos application has received interesting news that greatly enrich its use. The Photos app for Mac has reached its version 2.0 and with it, it has inherited a large part of the new features introduced a week before in its counterpart for mobile devices with the launch of iOS 10. Let's see what we can do now from the Photos application on our computers Mac.
Seek and you shall find
The new Photos app for Mac, just like in iOS 10, it is much more intelligentand. Thanks to Apple's search algorithms, it is able to recognize people, places and things and based on this, we can search for "car", "house", "dog" or "Seville" and the related photographs will automatically be shown to us.
There is no specific interface for this new feature, it is found in the depths of Photos. Simply type in the search box (located at the top right of the screen) what you want to search for, and you will find it.
Your best «Memories»
Thanks also to those intelligent algorithms that Apple has implemented, the Photos app for Mac incorporates the "Memories" feature that, as in our iPhone or iPad with iOS 10, is able to dive through all our images and videos to collect them in care «Memories». The function is especially useful for those who pile up photos and photos but always forget to build albums.
These "Memories" combine photos and videos, titles and a soundtrack. Y we can edit them to our liking changing music, adding or replacing pictures and more.
Your photos, in the exact place
Well yes, it is that literal. Because right now Photos uses the geolocation found in the metadata of our photos to show us on a map. If you make a trip to Barcelona, just by selecting the "Places" section in the left sidebar, you will be able to know how many photos and videos you took on your trip and, of course, you will be able to access them directly.
You will be able to see your entire photo library on a map but as I said, you will also be able to delve into certain events, albums and more. In fact, the "Memories" we talked about earlier also include a map at the bottom that shows us the places where the photos were taken.
And if you enlarge the map, you will see that the location is much more detailed, so you will be able to see the photographs that you took in specific places such as a park, a museum, etc.
Connect your «Memories»
Photos uses all existing metadata to generate a list of Related "Memories" that you can see at the bottom of each memory. For example, the Memory of a visit to your parents 'house at Christmas will connect with the memories of other Christmases in which you also went to your parents' house.
Draw, write, doodle
Another feature inherited from iOS 10 is that you can use the markup extension to draw and write on your photos. It may not be a very useful function, well, in fact it is not, but sometimes it can be fun and original, especially if we are going to share that photo with someone.
And enjoy it big on Apple TV
With the release of tvOS 10 for the fourth-generation Apple TV, you can see your albums, memories and more on the big screen. Finally, access to Photos from Apple TV is interesting because the truth is that before, I was quite poor.
