IOS 6 New Features Summary

Since last Monday's keynote Much has been written about iOS 6 and its new features, so much so that eIt's a bit difficult to remember each and every one of the novelties of this version.

Now, we will list the most important in each area:

Phone number

  • Options to decline calls. When receiving an incoming call, users have the option of replying with a predefined or personalized text message or setting a callback notice.

Facebook

  • Uploading photos. Users can post photos to Facebook directly from the Photos app.
  • Press to Publish. Users can update their status on Facebook (and Twitter) from the Notification Center.
  • I like it. We have the option to "Like" Facebook in iBooks and iTunes stores.

FaceTime

  • FaceTime via 3G and LTE connection. Users can make FaceTime calls over a 3G or LTE data connection, rather than having to find a Wi-Fi network.
  • Unification of Apple IDs with the phone number. Users can make FaceTime calls from their iPads and other devices using their Apple ID or phone number.

Crab

  • Restaurants. Siri will now be able to search for restaurants based on price and availability of outdoor seating, as well as location and type of cuisine. You can also upload photos and make reviews on Yelp, as well as make reservations through OpenTable.
  • Films. Siri can look up room times, movie data, and trailers. It also reports on movie ratings and reviews through R.
  • Sports. The digital assistant has access to sports scores for both current and past, as well as schedules and rosters for soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey and football teams.
  • Launch applications. Users can run applications both from the system itself and from a third party,
  • Siri for the iPad. Siri is now available in full for the Apple tablet.

Maps

  • 3D maps with aerial view. Powered by 3D technology from C3 Technologies, the Maps application offers stunning 3D aerial views of buildings and monuments.

  • Traffic. Maps reflect traffic conditions in real time. You can also provide details on incidents and alternate routes to speed up travel times.

Clock

  • MP3 ringtones and alarm. Now users can set songs as alarm tones in IOS 6.
  • New application for iPad. iOS 6 brings the totally renewed Clock application for the iPad

passbook

Passbook is a new app in iOS 6 that organizes all of the user's digital gift cards, event tickets, and boarding passes. The cards are linked to the location, so if a user approaches a connected building with one of the stored cards, they automatically receive a notification to use it.

  • Pull to refresh. This new gesture has been included that allows updating the inbox of all email accounts.

App Store

After almost four years without major changes, the App Store receives a significant redesign in iOS 6, as do the iBook and iTunes stores. They look different, they act different, and browsing through content is more enjoyable. The App Store does not close after each download but remains at the same point to continue browsing the store.

Configuration

  • Do not bother. A new option for users that allows you to disable all push notifications and alerts with a single option. It also allows you to configure which contacts and applications will be affected by this feature.
  • Bluetooth relocation. The option to enable or disable Bluetooth has been moved to the main configuration panel of IOS 6, making it easier for users to access the option.
  • Government alerts. A new option, which is currently only available in the US, to receive notifications in case of emergencies from the Official Organizations.
  • Privacy settings. Users can see what data - contacts, calendar, location, etc. - are sharing with each application and restrict it if necessary.

Miscellaneous

Other less important but noteworthy changes are:

  • Possibility of playing songs by streaming or downloading them to the device through iTunes.
  • Roulette icon when turning off the device in retina quality.
  • Personalized dictionary in the cloud and synchronized with all devices.
