Remove the Chrome notifications icon from the OSX menu bar

GOOGLE CHROME. NOTIFICATIONS

When you come to the world of Mac, you realize that the programs that you always used on your PC, on this system vary. This is the case with the default browser on OSX and Windows. In the case of Windows we talk about Internet Explorer and in the case of OSX we talk about safari.

Most of the users I know use the Safari browser directly, but there are certain users who need a different browser either because they do not want Apple's or because the pages they visit are better reproduced in a different browser. The browser that users usually install in parallel with Safari on OSX is the Mac version of the Google Chrome.

That user gets to work and looks for the Mac version of Google's Chrome browser. After installing it you notice that a kind of Tinker Bell, which is out of tune, in the OSX top menu bar. In this post, that's what we're going to talk about. We are going to teach you how to remove that annoying bell. That bell icon represents a notification configuration manager, nobody knows what it looks like there and it is not part of the browser preferences. To eliminate it, the first thing that may come to mind is that pressing the bell and dragging it out from the bar you would solve the problem, but no, after performing that action there is still.

CHROME HOOD

The way to remove it is by having to disable Chrome notifications on all web pages. The steps to follow are:

  • Write chrome :/ / flags in the address bar.
  • Locate the item Enable notifications in rich format and change its status to Disabled.
  • Restart Chrome for the changes to take effect.

In this way you will have been able to eliminate that icon that totally clashes with the OSX style.

    MMM ...

It worked for me a few months ago ...

But I believe and the chrome was updated, that bell appears, but in // Flags, the option to Enable notifications in rich format just doesn't appear, how do I get it out now?

      Cockatoo said

The same as the companion «anacleto» ... that option is flags no longer exists ...

Enable application menu sync Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS
Enable application menu sync. It also enables folders if they are available (not on OS X). # enable-sync-app-list

         franktastic said

obviously, you have to disable it.

Let's see if it works for you!

      Hello!

      Juan said

Now it's called Enable Synchronized Notifications Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS

      Anacletus said

Hello again, and that is because that bell has me dry, I went to // Flags and typed F3 to open the search box, being there, I wrote "Notifications" and 8 results appear, I browsed through them and I found the following :

1.-Enable synchronized notifications Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS
Allows you to enable experimental synced notifications. # enable-sync-synced-notifications
► (I disabled it, restarted and the bell disappeared, after a while, it reappeared)

2.- Google Now Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS
Allows you to enable the option to receive Google Now notifications. # enable-google-now
► (I don't know what it's for, but I also disabled: I restarted and the bell disappeared, after a while, it reappeared)

3.- Windows, Linux, Chrome OS device detection notifications
Sends device discovery notifications on a local network. # device-discovery-notifications
► (I don't know what it's for, but I also disabled: I restarted and the bell disappeared, after a while, it reappeared)

4.-Use boxes for Windows, Chrome OS permission requests
Show content permission requests (for example, notifications, quota, camera use, microphone use) in boxes instead of information bars. # enable-permissions-bubbles
► (This is disabled, so I left it)

5.-Behavior of the Mac Notification Center
Modify the behavior of the notification center system level icon. # notification-center-tray-behavior
This experimental feature is not available on your platform.
► (There is no way to change this option)

The option: "Enable application menu synchronization" has not been tested, I will check to see what happens ...

    ► Windows 7, Chrome Version 35.0.1916.114 m

    Regards!

And yes, I know that here is a forum for MAC, but it worked for me for W7 a few months ago, and it is the only forum where I can think of finding a solution, Greetings!

The current answer is what franctastic said:

Enable application menu sync Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS
Enable application menu sync. It also enables folders if they are available (not on OS X). # enable-sync-app-list

Obviously, you have to disable it (Disable)

They have already removed the option so that more people can swallow this crap that what it does is annoy. and also leaves a hole to know what one is doing. So they study people and then attack you.

      Jonathancr said

COMPA YOU MUST ALREADY UPDATE THE INFORMATION. NO LONGER WORKS WITH THIS METHOD in the most recent version
    Version 35.0.1916.114 m.

I have tried everything and I have not been able to remove that damn icon that fucks. I believe that no formula works. I have found several frustrated solutions that lead to nothing and goolge takes political measures with its products because they know that it is the most used browser

I do not know what crossed your mind to put this tray .. besides that you are already using the browser and occupying a window, they want you to swallow that icon that takes up space.

I generally like to keep my bar clean and only the antivirus in the tray. the network, the sound.

How to hide the notifications icon

If you don't want the notifications icon to appear in the system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac), you can hide it. Here's how you can do it:

    Windows
In the system tray, click the notifications icon.
    Click Customize.
Change the behavior of the Google Chrome icon to hide the icon and notifications. The icon will then appear in the overflow area of the system tray.

    Mac
Click Chrome in the top menu bar.
Select the Hide notifications icon option from the drop-down menu.
The icon will be hidden in the top menu bar. To show it again, just follow the steps indicated above and deactivate the "Hide notifications icon" option.
