Pixelmator today released the latest version of its application, version 3.1. As almost all users know, it is available only on the Mac App Store at a price of 26.99 euros.
In this update the developers have introduced several improvements including specific optimizations for the new Mac Pro as well as support for 16-bit images.
First of all, Pixelmator 3.1 has been optimized for the hardware of the new Mac Pro. With the new Mac Pro, its GPUs can be used together for faster image editing and rendering. In fact, now the application can calculate the autosave data while the image is being rendered. This translates into significant improvements in application speed. All the operations that Pixelmator performs are able to take advantage of the memory bandwidth provided by the new Mac Pro, so the developers have focused on increasing performance. Specific optimizations have been made for all Xeon CPU variants that can be purchased with the new Mac Pro.
An increase in team power is also going to mean that Pixelmator is going to be able to edit 16-bit images for the first time. This enables professionals to work with rich and vibrant images of 16-bit color per channel.
Pixelmator 3.1 also adds integration with the new service MILK Print With which you can order physical copies of your photos, high-quality posters, prints, and postcards directly from the application at prices ranging from $ 15 to $ 125.
The update also brings a lot of small improvements, including improvements to the behavior of layer styles or the effects that were removed from Pixelmator during the transition have been reintegrated. Furthermore, the compatibility of RAW file formats has also been improved.
