This is one of those questions that we usually receive on the web and on our social networks when launching new versions of the operating system for Mac or even for iOS devices with recent updates. Well, this question is easy to answer and is that in most cases when we install the latest available beta version of macOS Sierra, iOS, watchOS, etc, we are installing the final version of the same system and as a general rule it will not show us the update on our Mac.
Now the next question is, What do I have to do to install the new version then? Well, we don't have to do anything directly. If we want to continue with the Apple beta program on our Mac for any reason or we want to install the official version of the newly launched operating system, it is best to make a backup copy of our computer and start downloading the current version from the Mac App Store. Once our data has been downloaded and backed up on the Mac we can perform a clean installation of the operating system by performing a clean installation.
But in any case, if we already have the latest beta versions of the operating system, what we really have installed on the Mac is the latest version available, which is usually called GM (Golden Master) and we don't have to worry to update our system since it will be from that moment.
The truth is that having the beta versions installed on the Mac is not what we recommend in I am on a Mac, since these versions can always contain small bugs or incompatibilities with some application / tool that we use in our day to day life and can be a problem so it is best to have these beta installed on external drives for testing or directly on a partition on our drive.
