Years ago, developers took advantage of the lack of options to bring to the market a “vitaminized” Finder that would meet the expectations of the most intensive file management users. It is true that the Apple system has a secret weapon, the implementation of automator to fill in many of Finder's shortcomings. But in any case, especially for users who are less professional or who only want basic options, Apple decides to add new functions to Finder in MacOS Sierra . These are its two novelties.
- Delete the items from the trash after 30 days: Until Mac OS Sierra there is no criterion to delete items from the trash on a regular basis and we are always in the position of whether to delete the information immediately so that it does not accumulate or leave it at least for a while in case we should use it again. Well this function automate file deletion when they remain more than 30 days. We see this function in other applications, such as the removal of Photos in the native application of Mac and IOS.
- Keep folders on top when sorting by name: when we want to locate a file, unless we know exactly what we want to find, the normal thing is to start with something generic, to continue searching within them and access the required information. For example, I want to find an invoice for an event. We generally search with the keyboard shortcut Alt + Cmd + space and search by event name. Until now, the information is presented by interleaving folders and files. By checking this new option, we will see the folders above (that is, first) and then the rest of the information.
At the beginning these functions are somewhat hidden. To activate them, we must access Finder Preferences and press advanced, where we can activate them.
These semi-hidden functions go on to swell the list of 100 or 200 new options that are announced to us with the output of each operating system, we will see how many of them are still to be discovered in MacOS Sierra.
Can all extensions be hidden at once, or will we continue in 1985?
