Identify an iMac with the model number on the packaging

identify-imac

One way to identify iMac is by directly accessing the  menu and clicking on 'About this Mac' but let's imagine that we are going to buy a second-hand iMac and we want to have more information about which machine we are buying. In this case there is a very simple system that allows us to find out which iMac model we have in front of us just by checking the number that appears on the box. This is an interesting way to see if the product we are buying is really the iMac model that the seller explains to us, obviously it may have some type of modification made by the owner, but this identifier it will tell us exactly what model it is.

To arrive at this number we only have to look at the outer sticker of the original iMac packaging where the reference number also appears (the one in the image above is the 27-inch model from the end of 2012, iMac 13,2). Then using the table that we leave below we only have to match that number Use one of those listed in the table below to find out which iMac model it is.

The two characters in front of the forward slash "/" vary by country ("XX" represents the two variable characters indicated) but the rest of the reference number is the same for everyone. Now when they tell us the iMac model we just have to look at the sticker on the box and confirm the model, this way we don't have to turn on the machine.

This list will also help us to have all versions of the spectacular iMac controlled, we'll keep updating it every time Apple releases a new model.
