Apple in iOS 17 introduced a range of small features and tweaks that make using the iPhone a better and more intuitive experience. There are minor but notable changes to the keyboard, which is a key part of the operating system. So today we will see how to use the new iPhone autocorrect.
Apple let fall Important announcements about the iOS 17 keyboard auto-correction system of the iPhone at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023. As part of a series of improvements, AI is being used to improve auto-correction to avoid fewer typing errors. Additionally, this system is based on machine learning models that are customized for each user and run directly on the device.
The keyboard now employs a next-generation language model to improve autocorrect accuracy. In this article we will see how to use the new iPhone autocorrect and its new functions. Go for it!
iOS 17 brings improvements to keyboard autocorrect

As next-generation AI language greatly improves word prediction, you'll get an improved experience with iPhone autocorrect. Therefore, when you are writing, on-device machine learning will intelligently correct errors with exceptional precision. Afterwards, you'll start seeing predictive text suggestions. You can simply add additional words or complete sentences by tapping the space bar.
If you want to turn autocorrect on or off on your iPhone, follow these steps:
- first go to IPhone Settings
- Then tap on General admission
- We look for the section Keyboard
- And click on the option Automatic correction. The autocorrect feature will be enabled by default.
In iOS 17, autocorrect now has a new look. The system briefly highlights the autocorrected word. The original word you typed is displayed when you tap an underlined word, making it easy quickly undo the change. Additionally, the keyboard should be more sensitive to the user's native language.
During the WWDC 2023 event, Apple Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi said in this regard:
"And in those moments when you just want to type a word, the keyboard will learn that too."
The AI improvements made to AutoCorrect in iOS 17 also fix grammatical errors in a sentence. Once you have completed each sentence, grammar suggestions will appear.
Auto correction

The machine learning technology that Apple is using for automatic correction has been improved in iOS 17. Apple says it has adopted a «transformative language model», which will better customize autocorrect for each user. It is able to learn your personal preferences and word choices to be more useful to you.
After using iOS 17 for a few weeks, most users will find that autocorrect suggestions are much better at predicting what you want to say and presenting words for you to tap to auto-fill. When you use acronyms, abbreviated words, slang words, and colloquialisms, autocorrect is not as aggressive with autocorrect, but still capable of correcting accidental typos.
On stage, Apple's Craig Federighi humorously said that the iPhone I wouldn't change anymore "ducking" for a certain swear word you really wanted to write. The new engine still makes mistakes, but most users should find that it has improved compared to iOS 16.
Automatic correction
When autocorrect changes a word, now there is a blue line below the corrected word that you can tap. Tapping the blue line shows the original word you typed, and you can tap it to choose it instead. If there are other possible autocorrect options for what you typed, they will also be displayed.
The functionality is useful for when autocorrect fixes something you didn't want fixed because it only takes one tap to revert instead of having to retype the word.
Automatically fill the word
Some word suggestions now appear inline when you're typing, and you can tap the space bar to insert them. It makes typing faster, and this is a feature that gets better as you use iOS 17 more frequently.
There is also sentence autofill. Word autofill feature that makes inline suggestions also works for sentences entire in some cases, so you can type what you need with just one or two taps of the space bar.
Best grammar correction

After you finish typing a sentence, if you've used a word wrong or have another grammatical error in what you've written, iPhone will let you know by highlighting the error. You can tap it to see suggested fixes.
For example, if you write a sentence and you accidentally change “affect” to “effect,” the iPhone can and will suggest the word you should use instead, or in some cases, just correct it. This is true for then/that, are/their/there, two/a/too, you/you are, it/is, and other common grammatical errors. iOS 16 fixed some of these problems, but iOS 17 does more.
Dictation
The dictation feature built into the iPhone has been updated with the same Transformer language model that Apple is using for text, so dictation should be able to better know what you're trying to say when there are multiple word options.
Dictation is still far from perfect in our tests, and it takes some time to improve.
Stickers like Emoji
Emojis are an integral part of the keyboard, and in iOS 17, stickers and emojis have been merged. If you press the emoji icon on the keyboard, the emoji will appear and all your stickers will appear. The end result is that you can use stickers in more places throughout the operating system, and in the Messages app, emojis can be used as stickers and placed anywhere.
