It is advisable to use temporary mode when you do not trust the other person. But, it is possible for someone to take a screenshot or screen recording of a message in disappearing mode before it disappears.
Although Instagram will notify you if the user takes a screenshot of a message sent in temporary mode. However, the recipient can also take a photo of a disappearing message with a camera or other device before it disappears.
How to deactivate Instagram ephemeral mode?
If you want to deactivate temporary mode in an Instagram chat, this is what you have to do.
- Open the chat where you have enabled temporary mode. The same can be identified from a circle of dots along with the name of the contact in your chat.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and release to deactivate temporary mode.
- Your screen will return to normal and you will be able to see your normal chat thread. Messages sent in temporary mode will disappear.
- All unread messages sent in disappearing mode can be viewed by clicking "See disappearing messages."
I can't see the temporary mode option on Instagram
If you don't have the option to enable temporary mode in the Instagram app, check if your app is updated to the latest version in the app store. Apple , and install any updates, if necessary, and then try again.
