Something that many users are demanding in the new OS X Yosemite is the option to remove the boot password of our Mac and this is what we are going to see now. First of all comment that removing this startup password reveals our Mac, that is, if we lose it all our data will be exposed since anyone will be able to enter the Mac without the password.
While it is true that setting the password every time the Mac is started or simply when it comes back from sleep is a nuisance, it can save us from some annoyance, everyone is free to activate or deactivate this password to their liking and now we will see how do what. Our advice is to change the password for a simpler one and not delete it completely but that is not decided by us, so let's see step by step how to remove this password but before doing anything I recommend reading the entire tutorial well and then if we see it clear to carry it out on our Mac following the steps.
Well, the first thing we are going to consider is whether we activate in the Yosemite FileVault installation. If we have it activated we must disable it completely for our purpose. To deactivate Flievault we are going to System preferences and click on Security and privacy, then we unlock the padlock in the lower corner and we deactivate FileVault. This process may take a few minutes since it requires decrypting the disk, wait and do not despair.
Once this is done we can now dedicate ourselves to eliminating the password request directly, for this we will go to System Preferences> Security and Privacy again we will unlock the padlock if it was closed to access the options and click on the tab General, now we have to click on the button Change Password… and put the one we currently have which is the iCloud one. We use another, the one we want (this new password is important to remember since it will be the one that is registered for the activities on the Mac, such as unlocking the lock) and uncheck the box Request password after X minutes of starting sleep or screensaver if we want that when our Mac returns from sleep it does not ask us for the password.
Be careful with the new password, it is important not to forget it eh!
Now we can directly access the System preferences again and click on Users and groups, click on the padlock again if it is closed and unlock it, for this it will be necessary to enter the new password that we put in the previous step, once unlocked we can click on Login Options in the left column and access the dropdown Automatic login (before in light gray without access) where we can choose our username on the Mac so that it boots without password.
And that's it!
I can't do it by following the tutorial
The Mac unlock password is our iCloud password when we install OS X Yosemite and in some cases it may be necessary to unlink the Mac password to change the iCloud password, that is, change iCloud password from the Mac and in this case it is necessary to follow a few previous steps before doing anything.
For this we have to access directly from System Preferences to Users and Groups and where our account appears click on Change iCloud password. With the lower lock unlocked, we must change the iCloud password to unlink it from our Mac. Be careful because what this action does is modify the password of our iCloud account and once the step is done this will be the password that we will have on all the devices linked to our Apple ID, Apple will send us an email to our Apple ID warning of the change.
Once the password has been changed by following the steps that appear (including adding the answers to security questions about our Apple ID), it only remains to follow the tutorial above in order, first deactivate FileVault if we have it activated and then the rest of the steps .
