How to remove guest user in OS X Yosemite 10.10

user-guest-yosemite

One of the doubts that many of the new users who install the new OS X Yosemite assail is how remove guest user that appears in the login every time we start the Mac or is activated after sleep. This is a task that surely many of you will already know very well, but today we are going to explain it to that other part of users who do not know how to do it.

The homework of deactivate or create a new user It is very simple and months ago we already saw how to create a new user on our Mac regardless of the team administrator, now we are going to see how to delete the guest user that appears in the OS X Yosemite login.

The first thing we are going to do is enter System preferences and we're going straight to Users and groups click and enter:

guest-user-1

Now we have to unlock access and for this we will click on the lower padlock and we will write our administrator password:

guest-user-2

Once we have the padlock open we can click directly on the invited user and we will remove the 'check' from the box, Allow guests to connect to this computer. This will automatically be deactivated for the following logins. We close the padlock again by pressing on it and we go out.

guest-user-3

Now already only our user will appear at the moment of starting the Mac where we have to put our password. This is another topic that we will discuss shortly, how disable the password request on our Mac with OS X Yosemite.

I just did it yesterday !!!
But thanks for always helping us ... NOTE that the Guest helps in case the MAC is lost / stolen ...

I already did, but even deactivating the guest user, it keeps showing up at system startup. What to do in this case?

Juan Fco Carretero (@ Juan_Fran_88) said

I have deactivated it several times in this way and it is activated again, I just don't know why it will be

         Jordi Giménez said

Well, it's weird because I don't get activated once the process is done. Try creating another user and deactivate it to see if it activates it alone. Is it in the Hackintosh?

      Cheers!

but the guest user does not disappear ... rrrr ...

Hello Ede, you are doing something wrong because if it disappears 😉

Well, they are not bad, I knew these steps, I did them and nothing, I came looking for help, I did it again following your instructions (which were the same) in case I doubted that I did something wrong, and the guest account keeps appearing.

It's been two days »Deleting account…» is it normal? It won't let me turn off the computer.

I deleted an old administrator account and made a new one but now I can't find my photos or files, is it possible that they have been deleted? .. If so, can the information be recovered?

         Jordi Giménez said

Hi Alan, if you selected the option to delete the Home folder then the only thing I can think of is Time Machine. Deleting the Administrator deletes the data if you select it and I don't know if you can recover it.

You looked in Time Machine or in Finder> Devices> «your Mac»> HD Macintosh

      You already tell us

           Alan said

Hello Jordi, the truth is that when I deleted the account, I only got a box that said delete, I'm desperate, I had very important things that I want to recover, thank you very much for answering!

The same thing happens to me, I deactivate the guest account and anyway it continues to appear when I restart the computer, I have nothing modified or hacked.
and no matter how much I activate and deactivate again, the guest account that only opens with safari is not removed.
if you could help me it would be great.

I ask you a query, create two users on my mac, one for my sister and one for me, when I turn off the system and turn it on again, to enter my sister's account you first need to put my account so that it «appears», as if it were a mother account, and both are activated with the same functions and as administrators, how can this be? From already thank you very much

Hello, good afternoon: by mistake they closed the user and the guest user was automatically set. The problem is that I don't know what the username and password are, what else can I do?

         Jordi Giménez said

      Good morning Erick,

If you do not remember the username and password of your account you can access in safe mode and try to reset the password but I am not sure if this works in El Capitan

      regards

Hello, I have OSx Capitan and only the Other user appears and mine disappeared. Help, I have tried all the passwords and it doesn't work.

      George said

    guys I found the solution:
This happens when the "Find My Mac" option is enabled in iCloud preferences. Turn it off and it will disappear.

         Iron said

Hello! It is exactly that, since I activated it, the user appears to me, in fact I don't know whether to leave it so as not to deactivate "Find my Mac" or can it be deleted anyway? Thank you! Greetings.

      Jamie Alonso said

I see that there are many who have not just found a solution to disable the OTHER option on the home screen. This is not an error, but it appears even after disabling the guest user because there is still another user who can log in, the root user. So the solution is as simple as disabling the root user in the directory utility.
