It must be recognized that the recycle bin is one of the most important security elements that we can find in both Windows and macOS, sas long as we don't have the habit of emptying it continuously, as is my case, and that has given me the odd displeasure. The recycle bin allows us to save the elements that we no longer need on our Mac, in case in the not too distant future, we have to make use of them again. If you are one of the users who accumulate files, documents and programs in the trash and do not empty it well because you do not remember or simply because the image of the full trash does not bother you, you should know that over time it can occupy a considerable space in your equipment.
Fortunately, macOS offers us the possibility of being able to configure the system so that it automatically elements are deleted 30 days after their inclusion in this trash can. In this way, we periodically free up space on our hard drive, ensuring that the last files, files or documents are still present as if it were a backup.
Automatically delete items older than 30 days in the trash
In order to set macOS to delete items with more than 30 days in the trash, we must proceed as follows:
- We access the Finder preferences.
- Inside the Finder, we go to the tab Advanced.
- Then we just have to mark the tab Delete items from the trash after 30 days.
In this way, every 30 days all the items that have been in the trash for that long will be automatically deleted by the system without us having to intervene at any time, which will also allow us to obtain additional space on our Mac.
