How to set up Handoff in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite

One of the great novelties implemented by OS X Yosemite falls within what Apple calls Continuity. We talk about Handoff or, what is the same, to be able to start a task from one device and continue it in another from exactly the same point where we had left it but How to configure Handoff?

Setting up Handoff

To configure Handoff we must consider a whole series of prerequisites:

  • iPhone / iPad upgraded to iOS 8 for the messages we must already have iOS 8.1 available from Monday October 20)
  • Mac computer with OS X Yosemite (If you have not yet updated to Yosemite you can check the compatible equipment here or how to install OS X Yosemite from scratch here).
  • Both must be under the same iCloud account
  • Both must have Bluetooth activated
  • The initial device where you started your task must be unlocked and less than ten meters from the second device

Taking into account the above, we can activate Handoff on our iPhone, iPad and Mac to take advantage of the new feature.

To activate Handoff on our iPhone or iPad We just have to follow the path Settings → General → Handoff and suggested applications and activate the Handoff button:

To activate Handoff on your Mac with OS X Yosemite You just have to go to System Preferences → General → Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.
