Tough words from a Congressman about the conditions of the App Store

Indie developer support project

A few hours from the apple developers conference, a congressman has raised the alarm on the treatment of the company to these in the App Store. His innuendo goes beyond a simple comment. Expressions have been used, let's say, outside of what is properly political. This controversy only adds fuel to an already compromised situation.

Apple has had a problem with credibility of their performances within the app stores. Although it is not a new fight, because as we can remember, Spotify already has a lawsuit open of course monopoly. The novelty comes from the hand of an email management application and your ability to earn money outside the conditions imposed by the company.

A couple of days before the developer conference, those who make it possible for the store to be filled with applications that users want to have and that generate many millions for the company, a Congressman has declared that Apple's conditions they are a "robbery".

David Cicillin, A Rhode Island Democrat and chairman of the House of Representatives Antitrust Subcommittee called App Store policies "highway robbery." He said the company is demanding a "ransom" from developers.

Very harsh words where blackmail and robbery are mentioned. The conditions of the App Store are established very clearly and as they have stated from Apple:

The App Store was developed with two goals in mind:

  • Make it a safe and reliable place for customers to discover and download applications.
  • a great opportunity of business for entrepreneurs and developers.

We are deeply proud of the countless applications that have been produced.

It should also be remembered that 84% of the applications they are free and they do not provide Apple with a portion of the revenue.
