One of the things all OS X newcomers criticize it is the lack of a key that in simple PCs is present. This is the delete key. Steve Jobs was always clear that on his computers this key was unnecessary because he did not want a simple press to delete a certain file.
OS X is full of key combinations that do the same effect as having those keys physically on the keyboard, which would make them have to be smaller in size than need space to put them. If you have noticed, Apple keyboards, with the passage of time have gone decreasing in size until it is no more than 25 cm long.
As we have indicated, within OS X there are countless key combinations that you can press to do many actions not directly locatable on the keyboard. In this article we are going to remind you of the key combinations that you can use in OS X related to deleting files, words, phrases, trash, etc. and all from the keyboard.
The most used key combinations are:
- The combination of keys you must press to have the same effect as the delete key are fn + delete. Note that the delete key is the one above the intro.
- To send a certain file directly to the trash we will press the key combination ⌘ + Delete.
- To empty the recycle bin you must press ⇧ + ⌘ + Delete.
- Empty Trash Without Dialog ⇧ + ⌥ + ⌘ + Delete.
- If what you are going to delete are individual letters, as in all systems we press the key Delete.
- To erase entire words ⌥ + Delete.
- In the event that you want to delete text, but forward, we will press fn + Delete.
- To erase entire words but forward it will be with fn + ⌥ + Delete.
As you have seen, the process of deleting things in OS X seems much more complete than those that, a priori, it seems. It is clear that all the key combinations that we have discussed you will not use, but surely if you start to memorize them, at some point you will be able to get your hands on it. I use them on a daily basis and I can tell you that they speed up writing and managing files in OS X in an incredible way.
