Blackmagic eGPU is the first external graphics card that Apple sells

Apple has chosen the Blackmagic eGPU as the first external graphics card or eGPU that it decides to put on sale on its website, as well as in physical stores. The choice is not accidental for several reasons, but the main one, as we will now see, is that the product as a whole, fits perfectly with Apple's philosophy.

Apple allows you to incorporate external graphics to your computers from macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 providing more graphic power to work, mainly MacBook Pro users who choose this Mac for its transport capacity, but at the same time need graphic power.

Many are the advantages and characteristics. Starting with the compatibility with LG Ultrafine 5k displays that Apple has been selling since the 2016 MacBook Pro was released. Another important feature is the reduced noise that emits. When you see it indicated on the box, everything seems to indicate that it is pure marketing, but the truth is that it delivers on its promise.

If the product is convincing you, here are the rest of the features:

  • Ultra-silent, around 18db.
  • It has inside a Radeon Pro 580, with 8GB of GDDR5 memory.
  • Two Thunderbold 3 ports.
  • Four USB ports 3.
  • One HDMI 2.0 port, in case you still need this connection at any given time.
  • Is cable to charge the MacBook Pro with 85w power delivery.

This eGPU can be found in the Apple store at a price of € 699. This is the most criticized by users, as its competition incorporates a Gigabyte RX 580 Gaming Box, at a lower price. Perhaps the high price is found in the design and the aluminum materials it uses.

But the most representative of these products and for this we acquired it, is its performance. In general terms, we will say that slightly more than 4 times faster than the integrated graphics in a MacBook Pro. The downside is that it cannot be updated. Therefore, either you plan to give it a lot of use in the coming years, or it may not be your perfect eGPU, despite its great benefits.
