Bar None a free utility that prevents accidental touches from Touch Bar

Bar none

Sometimes you don't know why a device's operating system won't let you do something that at first seems obvious. Apple introduced the keyboard bar in its MacBooks Pro touch Bar. The idea is good, replace the function buttons with a touch-sensitive screen that changes their functions depending on the application you are using.

The problem is that this little screen may be too sensitive to the touch and more than once you touch it by mistake, if you are typing numbers, for example, that are just below. If this happens to you frequently, Bar None is a simple application for macOS that prevents you from accidentally hitting the Touch Bar.

Bar none is a new free application of Shaun inman which aims to prevent you from accidentally touching the Touch Bar. Depending on which applications, Touch Bar can be of great help. The problem is, being so close to the bottom row number keys, you might accidentally touch the Touch Bar, and that's a hassle.

What this application does is lock the Touch Bar, so that to play any of its functions you must do so by also pressing the key fn. With that you already avoid accidental touches, without losing the functionality of the bar.

Setting up the Bar None app is pretty straightforward. Once installed, you will need to give it additional permissions. Then you go to keyboard settings to configure the Touch Bar to remain with the function keys.

You can have it configured so that when you press the fn key it changes to the buttons of the application you are using. This feature is something you should incorporate into future versions of MacOS as an alternative way to use the Touch Bar without needing a third-party application.
