AppleJack is an application OpenSource to Mac OS X and that adds diagnostic and troubleshooting functions to the Unique User, allowing access to the system without having to resort to the boot disk or other reboot options through keyboard combinations.
With it, you will be able to repair the boot disk and permissions, validate the system preferences files, delete corrupt files from the cache, as well as virtual memory swap files. To do this, once installed, you have to reboot in Single User mode (command key + s key at the same time during startup) and type one of the following options:
- «applejack car»To run the tasks automatically.
- «applejack auto restart » does the same as «auto»But restarting the system once finished.
- «applejack auto shutdown»To shut down the system after the« auto »process has finished.
- «applejack AUTO » for a deeper cleaning of all Cache files, including the Boot Services database (only recommended if you have trouble booting after using AppleJack).
- «uninstall applejack»Will uninstall the application.
- «applejack version»Will inform us of the installed version.
If you want to know more about the options and operation of AppleJack, you can access the application manual by opening the Port and typing «man applejack«.
Finally two notes, for routine maintenance tasks it is better to use other tools and leave AppleJack for when everything else fails or we have problems starting our Mac. Also keep in mind that in Single User mode the fan speed management does not start, so it is normal that they are at full performance and make more noise.
